Why do training

Why do training 1

What is training?

NOUN: the action of teaching a person or animal a particular skill or type of behaviour.

The business directory says:  Definition of training: Organised activity aimed at imparting information and/or instructions to improve the recipient’s performance or to help him or her attain a ….

So why do training?

Because I know from my own experience that having the right knowledge at your fingertips can make  such a lot of difference. If I had access to this sort of training when I started selling online 10 years ago it would not have been such a struggle. I had no idea what I needed to learn or the sheer quantity of knowledge I would gain.

Having lessons laid out for me would have shortened  the time it took to reach my goals. I learnt most of what I needed from people on forums suggesting things I could or should do. Then it was a battle to find out what it meant and gain the knowledge required.

When you hear the word training what do you think of?

Why do training 2I think of sports, running, rowing, boxing, wrestling, martial arts, cycling, swimming etc. Then there is all types of singing to train the voice. Playing a musical instrument …… Well you get the picture the list would just go on and on.

Why do training

Of course, what you think of first relates to your own experience and those around you.

Do you think of people doing work training? Teacher training and courses that are work related. All necessary parts of the job.

But so many of us come online and want to run a business without thinking about training. I know this because that person was me. I had no idea what it would entail.

Is there a point to training?

I had this amazing idea that I was sure was completely new and found a site to open a shop. Amazingly, considering my complete ignorance I did sell things. Luckily the site had a forum filled with people that had been selling online for years and knew things I didn’t. The more I learnt the more there was to learn. It took years to become competent at online selling when it needn’t have done.

Why do we do training for anything?

It makes us more proficient. In sport it means we know how to train safely.

On the internet, we learn how to navigate our way around and learn how to use it safely and securely.

So, in general training has to be a good thing. We learn how to do things the right, easiest and best way.

Where do I find out  about training?

It depends of course, on what you want to learn. The best way is, either discover the training courses in the subject you wish to learn or find reviews that compare several different ones at a time. The latter will reduce the time spent evaluating considerably.

Online, there is a wealth of knowledge on all manner of subjects. I had no idea myself that there were so many bloggers reviewing so many different things.

Offline local councils run training courses on a wide variety of subjects and often provide a booklet with them listed. Colleges do day release courses to help you gain qualifications while you learn your job.

Youtube has a vast supply of training videos on every subject.

Be wary of scams, the ones that tell you that you can earn thousands every month by only working an hour or two a week. Especially if they tell you that you can start earning within 24/48 hours.

If you can’t look at what they have to offer without signing up and paying vast sums or even smaller sums upfront, then again be wary.

I found, after many months of searching, a platform that supplies training.

It’s called Wealthy Affiliate.

Check out the 6 month review HERE!

From 16th March 2020 that will change as many things are being updated. A starter member  will have 1 website to build and practice on and Premium members will only have 10 websites.

Why do training 3

The free training of 10 videos helps you to build up to 2 wordpress websites to get you started.

As expected the more comprehensive training will cost you a monthly or yearly fee but for that you get 50 websites, training. questions answered, help when needed Live video classes, keyword research tool and so much more as you can see by the table listing the free and premium memberships.

The table there though, doesn’t show the community. You get access to this amazing community, that helps, guides and spurs you onwards every day.

They commiserate and help when you are stuck and cheer with you at every achievement, however small.

They are truly what I think of as a community.

You lose absolutely nothing by trying it out. No credit or debit card required. Just come on board, have a look round, try out the free training and see what you think. That is literally all you need to do.

Now, if you are anything like me and serious about wanting your own online business, you will give it a try.

A word of warning though! I went from completely sceptical to maybe and then jumped in with two feet.

Took on 1 month paid to see if the rest of the training was any good and that was it! I was hooked. When that month came to an end I signed up for a year as it’s much more economical.

What type of work is available online

dream job

So you want to work online.

Nowadays everything seems to be online. But what type of work is available online?  There are many people who no longer want to go shopping for food and clothes. If they work long hours they don’t want to waste time going out to shops to buy necessities.

We make appointments online, apply for jobs, fill in application forms. Do the food shop, check out and book traders, apply for passports, order takeaways etc. The list just goes on and on. I however will stop there before I fill the page.

There are many reasons that people decide to work online. Working from home can seem an easy option.

Pro’s.

You don’t have to go out in all weathers, no traffic, no public transport to worry about and no crowds of people all fighting to get to work on time too. No uniform or work clothes to worry about, you could work in your pyjamas if you want to.

You don’t have to prepare food to take or pay for expensive lunch and snacks.

You are at home for deliveries, workmen and best of all the children. If your kids are at home because of illness or holidays then you are there, so no childcare to arrange or pay for.

Sounds great doesn’t it?

Cons.

Can be very time-consuming depending upon the work you do. You need to be disciplined. Its too easy to think, I will just do this, watch that, go out and do it later.

Many people expect you to be available because it’s not ‘Real” work.

If children are at home with you, it’s not easy to concentrate and get work done.

What sort of work is best for you? How, why, what, where, when, who What type of work is available online

There are many sites that offer jobs working for someone else such as paid surveys, freelancing jobs, online tutoring, product testing, translation, transcription, content writing, internet research jobs and blogging to name a few.

I confess here that I have no idea what the earning potential of this work is, what such work entails or how often the work is offered. I have just checked to see what is out there but not gone into it any deeper than that.

If your job in the real world is computer based many companies offer the option to work from home a few days or more, a week.

Running your own business.

So you like the idea of your own business? After all, its online so how hard can it be? No finding a bricks and mortar shop or office. No exorbitant business rates. Just set it up and the customers will come.

So it’s easy, isn’t it?

Well first you have to decide what sort of business you want.

The choices to sell goods!

What type of work is available online 4People buy goods online 24 hours a day. I read there are something like 4 billion users of the internet on a daily basis. That is a colossal amount of people.

You can either make your goods to sell or buy items to sell at a profit, new or secondhand.

With this you have a shop on a site like Folksy, Etsy, Ebay etc. There are many more and new sites spring up all the time.

For this you will need to take good photos and write descriptions of each individual item. Does take a while. When you sell an item, then it has to be parceled up and posted. If you hand make your inventory it will need to be replaced. You can also make to order.

Another option is FBA. This is popular on Amazon and known as Fulfilled by Amazon. First you set up an account. Then find a saleable item you can make a profit on, buy a quantity and deliver them to Amazon to store in their warehouse. When you make a sale, they will pack and post it for you. There is a charge for storing as well as post and packing.  The good part is no storage needed and no packing and posting.

Dropshipping is another option. This entails finding a company who’s products you like that do dropshipping, sign up for  an account. Then you select items you want to sell and add them to your website. When a customer buys, you place their order with the warehouse and the rest is done by them.

There is obviously more to this than I write here. I have looked into it, but not actually taken part in the practice.

Blogging.

Many people make money from blogging, sharing their experiences traveling. Doing reviews of products or selling products themselves. Once they have built up a following advertiser’s are keen to work with them and happily pay to have their products featured on a popular blog.

It does take time and effort to build a following. Many of the top bloggers have been writing theirs for years. You need to post regularly and the content needs to be interesting to your followers.

Marketing.

What type of work is available online 5People do marketing for others, either working for a company or working for themselves.

Whatever you do or make you have to market your items. Online the competition is fierce and you have to be constantly pushing to be seen.

If you don’t advertise your wares, you don’t sell anything. If you want to sell successfully you need to advertise daily. This means you need to be part of as many social media platforms as possible. Once on those platforms, interaction with others is key to building a following.

No following or very few, means none or very few see what you have to offer.

Affiliate Marketing.

This is another option, one I am learning about. Companies pay affiliate marketers to advertise their products, if someone buys a product through your link/advertisement, then you get a commission. The amount of commission does depend upon the company.

I was amazed how many companies there are using affiliate marketers, big companies too, like Amazon.wealthy affiliate banner

Like any other work, you have to learn what to do and how to find these companies and how to advertise them.

As an affiliate marketing business, though you don’t need to find or make goods, you still need social media. If you don’t advertise in any way, no one sees what you are offering, so no one buys.

Check out these posts if you want to research a bit more. Click HERE! and HERE!

Conclusion.

So these are a few of the options available, I am sure you can find many more if you do the research.

Working for others, you just need to follow their guidelines and stick to their schedule. So that’s fairly straightforward. Finding the suitable work is something that will take research.

Running your own business, working hours that suit you, is many people’s dream, but it is hard work with a lot to learn.

So whichever way you go it does involve hard work. There are many that offer ‘Get rich quick systems/schemes’ but if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

I wish you great success in whichever direction you decide to go.

How are Wealthy Affiliate doing

trust yourself How are Wealthy Affiliate doing

So, 4 weeks in:

How are Wealthy Affiliate doing 6

How are they doing?

Are they the real deal? How are Wealthy Affiliate doing?

I decided to sign up with Wealthy Affiliates,  it was free after all.  I didn`t expect much.

There was the free level and then you could upgrade to Premium which offered so much more for a monthly fee. Still  sceptical I waited to be pressured to upgrade.

No pressure! Hmmmm.

Instead I was being welcomed and offered training. Clearly suspicious!

What sort of scam was this?

I stayed to check them out to decide once and for all.

The community was so welcoming with offers of help. Maybe it wouldn`t last perhaps this was to draw me in.

I started on the training and was amazed how straightforward it was. Step by step website building. I could watch a step on the video, stop it and then carry it out on my site. Sounds a long way of doing it but it worked well for me as I am not ‘techie’ minded. I have never built a wordpress site before despite selling online for nearly 10 years.

They seemed so complicated to create, I avoided trying.

I had a week to decide whether I wanted to join Premium for half price for the first month. As the week went on I was so excited about the amount I was learning I decided to go ahead. It was only for the 1 month though! (Still sceptical)

This shows what you get for which plan. How are Wealthy Affiliate doing 7

You don’t have to join Premium, I think some do stay on the starter plan longer. Me? I love to learn and I want to succeed. The greater the knowledge the better chance I have.

What support is available?surround yourself with successful people

Would probably be easier to say what isn’t!

I have asked questions and had several very helpful answers very quickly.

Personal mentoring is available, though not tried that.

There is Live chat, for help and encouragement. (I’ve had a look but not taken part yet)

The community as a whole is very supportive We are encouraged to grow a network, which means you have a pool of people who get notifications when you ask a question or post a blog etc. The bigger the network  the larger the pool.

Training

Training Videos, take you through each part step by step to build your knowledge. Trained affiliates also create training videos on all manner of subjects. If you are keen to increase your knowledge, this can feel like being a kid in a sweet shop, being told you can have as much as you like.

How are Wealthy Affiliate doing 8

I find myself watching and then implementing all sorts of information. As soon I I learn it, that’s it, I’m off to the social media site in question, or my website or Google console, to carry out the instructions.

I have a sneaking suspicion that much of it is in the training I’m doing. I would get through it faster if I focused more and stopped rushing off here and there because I want to know everything right now!

There are also weekly Live Classes (and 100’s of hours of replays). I haven’t attended any of these yet so cannot wax lyrical about them. That’ something else that I will go into once I learn about it first hand.

Affiliate Bootcamp!

I am doing the Affiliate Bootcamp training to start with, to be an Affiliate for WA. I have nearly finished the first training course of 7. Each part has 10 video lessons, so it’s a comprehensive course.

I now have a wordpress website created by ME! I am very proud of myself  for having achieved that much. Step by step I will be improving it and my knowledge as I work through the various levels.

Keyword Research Tool.

I have found this tool very useful for keywords but it has many more uses too, so far I have mainly used it for keywords and not looked at all the other useful things it does. I will let you know about the other uses as I discover more.

Jaaxy keyword research tool

What else is there?

Below is a list of all the other things you get by being part of WA.  I will go through these in future blogs as I learn all about them. I prefer to talk about what I know because I have used it or taken part in it rather than looking up the information and adding it without knowing firsthand.

  • Ambassadorship Program
  • Online Entrepreneur Certification
  • The Affiliate Program
  • Networking
  • Building Websites
  • Website Performance Tools (SiteRubix)
  • Website Engagement Platform (SiteComments)
  • The Hosting Platform
  • Site Content Writing Platform

Summary

So far I am loving WA. The training is amazing, so easy to follow.

The community is fantastic, questions are answered quickly even if they seem daft. I am very new to this world of affiliate marketing so I get stuck on something that I figure must be obvious to others. But, a very big BUT, I still need to know and ask anyway.

There is no mockery of my ignorance, just kindness and answers. In my opinion, considering how people can be online nowadays, that is amazing.

Anyway… the upshot is….. ta da……….. drum roll………..!

My Quest to learn Affiliate Marketing

A quest sounds very noble, rather grand and even quite exciting. Sounds as though I am looking for the holy grail doesn’t it? But what is my quest to learn affiliate marketing about really and why?

How it all began!

My Quest to learn Affiliate Marketing

In a far off galaxy ………

……….

many aeons  ago ………….

……………….

No, not really………

It began with my adult daughter telling me I should be an “influencer” because I had over 20,00 twitter followers.

An Influencer: a person able to influence potential buyers of a product or service by promoting or recommending the items on social media.

I was none the wiser. Her information? Lots of people do it and lots of companies hire influencers.

Me: Where can I get information?

Response: Online. You just do some tweets and get paid if people buy whatever you are advertising!

Sounds easy, I can do that. But was it? No of course not!

The next step!

But as time went on and I researched, looked at different companies and joined one. I had to set up an account, then set up a page to attract customers. I had no idea what I was doing. Couldn’t  find anything to walk me through the process either. Everywhere I went on the internet pop ups from their app would appear for me to tweet. Yes, I tweeted those tweets for them in the hope of gaining something, even encouragement would have been nice. After a few weeks I stopped tweeting them.

After 3 months of nothing, I emailed them to inquire about next or further steps.  Was I surprised when I didn’t get any response? A bit but I tried again, still nothing. So I deleted my account and the app and that was it.

I was essentially advertising their wares and their customers wares for free. You live and learn.

My Quest to learn Affiliate Marketing 9

So that was a dead end!

But I am stubborn, I would find out more if possible. I would keep going regardless.

I might have reached a dead end but at least all I had wasted was  time and effort, not cash.

The Quest.

My Quest to learn Affiliate Marketing 10 I had no intention of giving up just because one avenue was a dead end.

I intended to buckle up and get right

back on the horse.

This had become a quest for knowledge. There had to be honest companies, after all a lot of people were already doing this and working online.

I wanted to find the holy grail of my particular quest. A real company with a way of working to earn money and didn’t con people to earn that wage.

It couldn’t be that hard, could it?

The information was out there somewhere, I just had to find it.

I started finding references to affiliate marketing and compared it with being an “Influencer”. They didn`t seem that different to me, plus being an affiliate marketer seemed as though it was more of a job to do and earn from.

I had no idea what it entailed but how hard could it be? I had started watching loads of videos that touted the amazing lifestyle that came with working a couple of hours a week.

I spent months researching for information on affiliate marketing. I wanted to learn but everything I came across offered the world for payment but had no substance.
I was starting to get very disillusioned by it all.

Then I started reading blogs on the subject. Once I started I found loads of them about various companies. Some were touting a particular “system” of their own. Others did comparisons to show you what was out there. Many others were writing about ones that were scams. If you have been seriously looking for information you will have come across lot’s of these too I expect.

My Quest to learn Affiliate Marketing 11

Some of course touted everything except their own system as a scam.

Or they pushed for the one they got most commission on.

It can be very disillusioning. One saying this is fantastic and another saying don’t touch it, its a scam.

There were constant choices did I go in that direction or this, take that path or the other one. I kept reaching a crossroad. Several directions with no clear idea which way

I didn’t want to waste time on leads that went nowhere but on the other hand I could miss out on a prime opportunity by not exploring every avenue.

So I kept looking, checking out every path just in case.

The main thing was, that I didn’t give up.

Wealthy Affiliates?

So the search continued over the months. The same name kept coming up over and over again. I followed the trail, finding out everything I could about it and it led me to Wealthy AffiliatesRead an early review I did after 4 weeks HERE!

and another review 6 months further on HERE!

All I had seen about this company sounded good but by now I was sceptical of everything. So I had a quick look and left. Looked pretty good but was it?

You could join for free. That was good right? Cash I intended to find out as much information as I could before the demands for money started coming in because it always happened. Didn’t it?

My Quest to learn Affiliate Marketing 12

I congratulated myself on a good strategy.

I joined ……. started learning ……. and ………………

I was hooked.

I learnt so much in a short time, I decided I would give the half price for one month offer a try, to see what premium is like. No way was I going to pay more. Just that one month only! The premium might not have much more, the best might be in the free bit to hook you in, it was probably a lot of hype. (I thought).

I was wrong. The premium training was even better, so much to learn, it was amazing, brilliant, fantastic.
And…… too late….. I was completely hooked, totally caught by the fantastic training and amazing community.

The Real Deal

They really were and are, the real deal. Free starter membership

Just over 3 weeks down the line and I have a wordpress website and blog. I thought they would be complicated and had always avoided it but it turns out that with step by step training, even I can do it.

Now when my half price month is up I intend to sign up to the yearly Premium membership. I figure that by the time the year is up I will have several sites up and running and the yearly fee will be a very minor expense.

Searching for online work is a journey

choice

So…….. you have been searching for work online…….

You may have heard, like I did, that there are more and more jobs online. They increase as the real world ones disappear. Searching for online work is a journey you start out on and then it gets complicated.

You start out innocently, unaware of what`s out there. Yes there is work but much seems to be poorly paid. You can earn more as a writer but it takes time to build a up a good reputation

What did you find? There are an awful lot of so called ‘opportunities’ out there. How do you sort the wheat from the chaff? So many people have lost  money to those “opportunity’s”. By the time you have been looking for several months you can become very jaded and no longer recognise a genuine opportunity.

I did learn that if it said any of these: “You can be earning money within 24/48 hours. By the end of the week you will have earned thousands. Yes it seems to be expensive but you will earn that back in days.” Then you should  avoid them like the plague.

It`s not easy at all trying to find something legitimate.

Research

So you do research, click every link that`s relevant. Put in endless searches, read blogs that compare the different platforms. On Facebook every other post has now become an advert for that dream life. Click on one once and you get more of the same with slight variations touting the get rich quick scheme with the fabulous lifestyle.Sunny beach Searching for online work is a journey

Do they get bored sitting on a beach all day, every day. How do they manage to see their laptop screen with all that bright sun

You watch the endless free videos! They say… ‘You can earn mega money working online for 2 -3 hours a week’. Some say:

‘1-2 hours is all it takes’ and they sound very plausible.

You get to see the supposed earnings all laid out. Amazing.

There they are, on  a beach in Bali/Hawaii (those are favourites) or anywhere that looks idyllic. Sometimes you see several different ‘system’ videos and they all look alike, same beach, same people. Funny that, pretty sure they can’t be actors. Can they? Hmmm. Not real then if they are. More proof!

The other ones!

Or you see someone standing in front of a big house beside an expensive sports car……… Sound familiar? Yep, me too. Seen quite a few of those. The one where the guy is working away at a table in a big kitchen of what you are supposed to think is his house.

When you see one of those, check out the background. Very bland, nothing personal anywhere. It looks immaculate. Gosh, it wouldn’t be a film set would it? Or a country house/room in a hotel hired for a  few hours?

They always paint a picture of a wonderful life in far flung places, with or without families. Sitting on a beach, blue sky, a few fluffy tiny white clouds drifting, a beautiful view that shows where they are, a cocktail standing on the table. Oh and don’t forget the laptop there in full view.

Doesn`t that look and sound divine? Something to aspire to? All yours for so little effort, the picture with the laptop, sitting under a palm tree or parasol, a fabulous lifestyle. Yours , apparently, for the minimal effort of a couple of hours a week to attain and keep the lifestyle going.

Is it Real?

I thought it looked good, half  believed it, really wanted to believe it. It just didn’t quite ring true somehow. Especially the part about the hours required, I was prepared to work hard to achieve success. The trouble was, nothing more was offered to help you without paying out a small fortune. No glimpse of what was on offer for you to evaluate first. Could this be because there wasn’t any substance to it? I really didn’t know except there were alarm bells ringing in my head saying no!

Having spoken to others, I am so glad I didn’t override my intuition, otherwise I too would have been much poorer.

It was a lesson in human behaviour, my own and those offering their ‘system’.

Have you found anything interesting out there?

Have you wasted hours and lots of cash to follow the dream? Let me know, I would love to hear from you.

Finally found what I sought

If you want to have a look and see where I ended up check this out.

Wealthy Affiliate! I gave it a try because  it was free  to join.I  figured  I would  look  about  and  see  what was  on  offer.

I was cautiously impressed, then decided to take up an offer of a month at half price, to see if it would live up to the first impression.
Learn and Earn online with Wealthy Affiliate.

It did. I was very impressed with the quality of the training, the web hosting and the community.

I was so impressed I signed up for a year at the end of that first month because I knew that it was what I wanted to do.
